Spring Allergies That Make You Depressed?

Even though spring seems like coming slowly this year, we still got to remember that as soon as those rainy days are over, most of us got to prepare Kleenex sheets, for a new fight against allergies. People have a sniffing noses, red eyes, all day, and in recent article written by Elizabeth Landau, CNN, it says that there are actual connections between mood change and seasonal allergy.
Implying that: "Seasonal allergies, which affect about 36 million Americans, aren't just an annoyance; many doctors agree there is a real connection between allergies and mood", research also has shown that there is about a doubling of risk for depression in a person suffering allergies and, if you've been seen by an allergist, that about triples the likelihood of having depression. And that's actually questions terms like "Clinical depression" and "Social disturbance", but actually the secret is within the the biological response, which is briefly explained in article. Knowing the cause is always helpful in solving the solution. Can we fight depression that caused by allergy? Of course. Then, we can live positive ;)

Real origin of 4/20 @_@ ;)

Many people all over the United States, celebrate April 20th as a non-official pot smoking day, spending their day as a herb appreciation day, gathering in parks, plazas and many other public places. On college campuses this "holiday" always been popular, but no matter how many years american student might spend on dedication to the pot, he might not know true story of 4/20, or heard the story but never fully knew truth...

This piece provided below was published in the May issue of High Times magazine in 1991 and handed to Huffington Post in order to help them with their research of origin of story of 4/20. However, the story provided below was confirmed by Huffington Post only partially right and implying that the story originally came from forests of California at Point Reyes...
Shortly I've decided to show you original article and witness the story with your own eyes, Read this Article here...

Spending the weekend: positive Anime to watch...

I know it sounds mad asian but there are a lot of people who enjoy watch Anime. I've never been a big fan of Anime by myself, but would finish whole DVD once I've seen first episode ;) If you not familiar to this type of animations, you would think that it same type of cartoons that you used to watch on Nickelodeon channel when you were kids, however it's not quite right. Anime being drawn by thousands of young and old artists in Japan been recognized as a form of art, and nowadays you can find tones of Manga books and DVD's in stores all over the world.

So, after crazy Friday night, I found myself on my sofa, in front of my laptop on Saturday morning. I didn't want to fulfill my brains with all these information from TV so I've decided to watch Anime. I've seen many Anime's and not all but most of them, as I remember, were full of blood, violence and sex. So I started my search of the most positive Anime's in the history. There are a lot of drawn worlds full of well-hearted and funny characters, but the contrast that have been described in the "Gakuen Utopia Manabi Straight" (I know that the title is really weird) was really amazing. The storyline full of positive and colorful characters even though the place takes in the year of 2035, which is not the best year for Japan (according to Anime). In order to not to spoof this movie, I want to shut down at this moment, and just show you this trailer so you can see it and decide for yourself. I enjoyed it, and I think not only Anime's but also other types of cartoons and movies that don't have violence and sex can help us to Live Positive ;)

Test on Gambling Addiction

Everybody at some point of their life must find themselves in the center of noisy gambling room, full of people who are ready to spend their savings on a little hope for easy money. Why do people chase these kind of places? Nobody, really knows, may be you a guy who look for attraction from beautiful ladies that respect fat wallet (like ones presented in photo on the left), or may be just opportunity of easy cash is an idea that stuck in your brain at the moment. Whatever reasons are, people of all ages, races, ethnicities connected with the same place called Casino, where they spend their nights. Personally I never was interested in such a games following my dad's old-school principles, but however have seen lots of strangers and close to me people play gambling games and lose decent amounts, but with this money they also tent to lose their smiles, and happy moods. How people lose their self-control so radically? Even if someone would answer this question, we average people not involved in science, probably wouldn't understand it. However we know that like 96 plus percent of population are not affected by "addiction", and they can bet without feelings of - anxiety, depression or sleeping disorders, that accompany gambling addiction.

Probably that's why Cambridge Health Alliance came up with this test that have 4-questions and works as interactive widget that can define your own gambling behaviour.

Take The Test

Christine Reilly, senior research director for the National Center for Responsible Gambling implied that: "Gambling is very parallel to alcohol use," making people to alienate from friends and family, lose jobs and money, making it really serious problem to consider.

So, defining the problem is always the first step, after you know what the problem is, it's easier to control it. Just always remember to keep yourself in check: never spend more than amount you wanted to spend, never gamble with strangers and no late gambling. Thank you and live positive ;)

There is a hope...

“Considered to be one of the the most influential skateboarders of all time, Tony Alva, an original Z-Boy, hit a bottom 4 years ago battling drug addiction and alcoholism. There, at his lowest point, his reliance on successes and ego came into perspective for the first time. Tony’s fight for sobriety and truth has recently lead him to a new perspective on life and direction moving forward. Dedicated to giving back Tony now see’s passing the bucket as the only way out.”

Today I would like to present you a short movie which was posted yesterday by company run by worldly known skateboard company "Vans" and professional skateboarder Tony Alva. Since skateboard is a new thing for me (half year only), I've never heard about this Hippy looking old guy when I was watching this movie for the first time. For me, his movie was inspirational and I'm glad for people who change their lives to better, people who stop at the edge and realize that they shouldn't give up life, inspiring many teenagers stay out from drugs, gangs to change their lifestyle for better. Most of people would ask "Who is this hippy look a like old man?". My answer would be simple: "This is Tony Alva, one of the most inspirational skateboarders of all time and the world's professional skateboard Champion, the title which he received in 1977" ;) After years and years of skateboarding this man runs his company with "Vans" in pour neighbourhoods all over the world to put smile on a face of youngsters who choose skate, sun and friends over TV, drugs and alcohol and I think ;) Tony Alva thank you today and enjoy your video here, Livin' Positive ;)

China have a lifestyle problems! Internet cafes in China ;)

Like on a picture, being asian I've been spending most of my free time in childhood playing computer games like Quake, Counter Strike, War Craft and of course Star Wars (not the second one which was made in 3D). Gathering with my group of friends in the nearest Internet Cafe, we were spending hours and sometimes even nights playing Co-Op games. Nowadays in Asia, in this type of places you can find players representing both genders and all kinds of different age categories, starting from early ages like 7, till the random more matured age like 40. I even remember when I've met a guy who was celebrating his 29th birthday in the internet cafe I've been visiting like 2 years ago. He had a hot-dog and soda with his friend, had a little love from his girlfriend who came around for half an hour, and he was able to drink alcohol in the internet cafe too. So basically he had normal birthday in the internet cafe, he've been doing his favorite thing, was playing video games all day, had love from his friends, nothing special. So basically there is amount of people who share this lifestyle in Asia. Socializing, playing video games in the internet cafe. The only question is: Is it right? Is it right in terms of health?

Reading post about this type of problem in China, it says that the Chinese government is taking steps to curb the amount of time kids spend in these environments. "The cafe is a physical place where friendships are negotiated face-to-face," says ethnographer and sociologist Tricia Wang. "If the government wants kids to spend less time in Internet cafes, they should think about building more public spaces for low-income families." So, that means having parks and more public places would reduce the amount of kids visiting internet cafes, however would it effect grown people? Is it too late to change lifestyle of these mature people in Asia? This question makes me to think about my own lifestyle, and think about reducing my time spending on computer, even though I don't play no more video games after finishing all possible computer games about Star Wars saga ;) Think about how video games effect you leisure time and if you really want to spend most of your time in the front of monitor. Think carefully, take care of your own health and live positive ;)

Our prayers for the people in Japan...

Yesterday, on Friday, 11th of March, The 8.9 earthquake hit Japan, taking away more than hundred thousands of people and causing tremendous damage for which government of Japan will need enormous worldwide financial support. British newspaper Guardian said that "Japan has invested heavily in coastal protection and buildings that can withstand tremors. Nevertheless, ports were pounded by the tsunami and the airport in Sendai was inundated. Nuclear power plants were shut down across the country and a state of emergency declared at the Fukushima nuclear power plant, where a cooling system failed. Modern buildings in Japan are designed to absorb the violent sideways shaking that can devastate cities. High-rise buildings can still be damaged, but are more likely to remain standing. There are concerns for low-lying islands in the Pacific."

First thing I did, is called friend of mine Shota who lives in Tokyo with his family. He said that it didn't hit Tokyo, however he was feeling earthquake for hours and still was afraid to die. Please people, put all our prayers together, make sure that people you know in Japan are safe and please Donate.

It seems like the nature keep showing us that we're only guests on this planet. However we are still people and one of the ways to survive in the modern world is through unity. Thank you for supporting Japan and keep up with updates. When it rains it pours, but we still livin' positive...

LMFAO and Party Rock Anthem!

Today YouTube posted new music video by Miami duo-based Electronic, Pop-group LMFAO "Party Rock Anthem", and video was positively great ;)

In the summer of 2009 group LMFAO came up with album that has shaken the pop industry. New sounds, with influences of hip hop, sort of 80's synthpop and dance electronic music, including lyrics mostly about partying, drinking, sex and love. So after being nominated on 52nd Grammy Nomination for the Best Electronic/Dance music, they're finally releasing new album this summer, called "Sorry for Party Rocking". I just hope that this album will break all my plans for this summer just like previous album "Party Rock" destroyed my summer with tequila shots, blackouts and sleep-overs in places I've never been. Watching this video we waiting for summer, waiting for sun, live positive ;)

Fantasy of time traveling with "Visions of the 60's" ;)

Looking at the "Time: Visions of the 60's" magazine you can see a lot of good times, bad times. Me and friend of mine reading this magazine could only imagine traveling in time and go back to 60's. Riding hippie bus with Hog Farm commune to the Fourth of July parade in New Mexico, joining the March to Pentagon against Vietnam war in 1967, listening songs about freedom by Joan Baez at Berkeley in 1964. How about the moment when Jimi Hendrix set fire to his guitar in 1967!?

All these wild dates putting 60's in my list of the decade I would Time Travel, which is possible and I hope really soon. 60's it's definitely experience I want to try, livin' positive ;)

Our bad habits... that keep us down...

"New York's City Council voted last week to pass a law extending city's smoking ban on parks, beaches and plazas where pedestrians congregate like in Times Square and Union Square." - says Time magazine's "Healthland" online rubric.
Even though smoking was accepted in Western society for a centuries, now (may be in 90 days when ban will be in effect), many New Yorkers have to face this problem of giving up this "bad habit". Is it going to effect city's lifestyle and bring sunshine to parks and streets of Big Apple City? Not sure. But for one thing I know for sure, that many people at least will consider of giving up this bad and now expensive habit, and certainly it's gonna collapse their feelings. What I mean is quitting cigarettes is really make people happier. Nicotine and Tobacco research done by scientists from Cancer Research UK Health Centre of University College London showed that 69% of 900 surveyed ex-smokers felt happier than when they were smokers, only 3% reported to feeling less happy.
What can I say? It's your choice. You think giving up this bad habit is really necessary to become happier? Well I smoke and a lot, and if it will make me happier I can put it in my list of how to live happier. Livin' positive ;)

And I got a song for you, those whose lungs are already tired doing their work but still you can play it here.

Can technology make us happy? really?

Question: Can technology make us happy?
"I think technology could be quite relevant to our happiness. That is, we could use technology to improve it. But I don't think we do..." - said Dan Gilbert, Professor of Psychology in Harvard University.

Human is the only animal which can use specific power called intelligence on the daily base. We build cities, and by the fact I know we create technologies. I remember when cellphone used to be only for calling and playing Snake. There was no internet, no Facebook, no twitter, nothing that connects old-fashioned phone to our new world smart phones. Even nowadays we expect new technology releases every half year, making us buy more updated and interesting pieces, but people never could ask whether technologies make us happier or not. How I believe buying technologies, lead us to happy feeling of acquiring something new but it's not what we could call happiness. Do people know what make them happy? No. We don't (I'm sorry mom, but we really don't). ;) That's probably why our technologies don't make us happy. What Dan Gilbert suggested to us is to start make technologies that "can" make us happy, effecting brain physically, like happy pills... So, having the cure, the technologies, there is only one question... Do we want to use them? Do you want to use happy pills? I've been on them for a year or less, and I'm saying it's not happy at all ;) It makes you feel little different than happy, sometimes it even makes you even happier than you want. Also it leads to some unexpected mental problems, which about I really can't write, since I'm not a pharmacists. So will technologies go to my list of "happy things"? I cannot tell yet, since I want to observe this theme a little more. Only thing I would say about technologies is. Think about it, only technologies that make us happy are technologies that connect us to our family, lovers, friends, that's a real happiness. Love people surrounding you, kids stay out of drugs, livin' positive ;)

For you to stay out of drugs, another app I found here ;)

Tribute to creativity...

Isn't it hard to do at the fast food where you partly work? (photo by Gareth Davies)

We know how it's important to be creative. Even living in our modern world of Globalization, working at job which is full of "alienation" we just forget what it's like to be creative, bring creativity in your job, make people smile, that's another secret of happiness... So why won't we be creative today and see how world around us change, happy creative day, livin' positive ;)

Drugs that can make you happy...

First of all I would like to attempt you considering the word that I used in this post. No, I'm not advertising bad habits or writting anything about addiction or any bad things considering illegal drugs. Keeping it PG-13 I want to write about experience I lately faced searching for the drugs that could make you happier. So, I typed a phrase "Drugs that can make you happy" on Google when definition of word "Ecstasy" suddenly popped up on a first line of results. So far, Urban 75.com says "Ecstasy is a powerful stimulant and mood changer that speeds up your body system and alters your perception of the world" but what does it really means!? Can it make you happy!? I mean it got a really cheap price and mostly lasts up from three to six hours, that's exactly what people looking for! They are looking for cheap prices and good amount of time in the "paradise". Looking at side effects we can say that this ILLEGAL and STRONG drug make you talk bullshit, do wild things and forget about them next day. Health risks section on this website couldn't encourage me neither. Just think about it... Are we really looking for that? Is your life is really boring to do that? I mean it's understandable that you as a human want to try new feelings but there are lots of people could enjoy life not even trying ecstasy even once.  So far, in this journey of finding the "real" happiness, ecstasy is sadly out of my list.

I still got something interesting for you that I found long time ago (almost forgot about it ;)). It's a flash game made by students of The University of Utah including all information you want to know about different types of illegal drugs. Kids stay out of drugs, their parents drive safely, "livin' positive" ;)

Game is here folks, livin' positive ;)

Science says...

Checking out "Yes! magazine" I stopped on Interactive Graphic that shows "10 Things Science Says Will Make You Happy". Interested in answering philosophical question "what makes us happy", father-son researchers Ed Diener and Robert Biswas-Diener, Stanford psychologist Sonja Lyubomirsky and ethicist Stephen Post have studied people all over the world to find out how things like money, attitude, culture, memory, health, altruism, and our day-to-day habits affect our well-being. For me, research showed some things that most people wouldn't follow, but hey, we not perfect, but I believe at least, we have to try. Everybody can try because it's so simple. Let's quickly go through it together ;):

Savor Everyday Moments - Everyday life gives us different circumstances, sometimes you just don't see them ;)

Avoid Comparisons - I know that b**** Emily talked sh** about you in the bathroom, but hey, start the change in yourself first ;)

Put Money Low on the List - I think it's quite hard to do in our times, I would paraphrase it into: "Remember, you don't live for money."

Have Meaningful Goals - it says “As humans, we actually require a sense of meaning to thrive.” Get your life together and find you ;)

Take Initiative at Work - Creativity, creativity and creativity ;)

Make Friends, Treasure Family - That's what we do ;)

Smile Even When You Don’t Feel Like It - You think I put smileys automatically!? I really smile everytime I do it ;)

Say Thank You Like You Mean It - Just remember that some words are more than just sounds ;)

Get Out and Exercise - That's what I forgot about ;)

Give It Away, Give It Away Now! - Don't start giving all your stuff to people around you, but "Researcher Elizabeth Dunn found that those who spend money on others reported much greater happiness than those who spend it on themselves." Livin' positive ;)

Stressing over Valentine's...

Today one of my friends came to me and started to talk how stressful it was to be a single on Valentine's day. Being in her late teen's she has ended up not being in love for a year. Switching from one relationship to another, she would never think how it's to be lonely on St. Valentine, calling her mom, telling how she loves her. Just after she hung up the phone she said: "that's only person I can call right now".

I've been single for a years so I'm use to being lonely . . . But after years I've learned that you cannot disturb your own vibe by over stressing things, so what I suggested is to keep your flow, how they said "hope dies last"...

Valentines Day is a time to observe the ones you love . . not to observe love that you don't have. . . ;) livin' positive

Love Day, Good Day...

Today is Valentine's day and I've realized it when I woke up and have seen all this e-mails I've received. Personally I wrote a text message to my mom, since I didn't want to wake her up, telling her how i love her and wish would spend this day with her and my sister. Story of St. Valentine, the priest from Rome who gave his life in the name of love was told by lovers across the world for many years now. I would only say, please love each other, spread love, remember this power that can build new hopes, that can bring happiness... ;) livin' positive

What do we watch...

So the weekend is almost over, and there is no place to party . . . again, it's time to prepare for the busy week. People are getting depressed remembering what they have to do for the week, like pay for bills - deadlines are close enough to worry about them, and you must do assignments which you wish you did the previous Friday,  oh yeah don't forget to call your mom since you miscalled her on Friday night... But Sunday wouldn't be called Sunday if we had all these problems facing us in the morning. First of all it's a sunny day, secondly Sunday is a day for friends to get together, remembering all parties they had this weekend, order pizza and watch a movie. Which movie you'd be watching tonight, depends. Hey, you don't want any drama with all the same "bullshit!" you see everyday, let's watch some adventures, some cartoons, some throw backs. I'm thinking about  a movie from the 80's "Airplane!" is one. Only in this movie you can hear Steve McCroskey saying: "Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit drinking. Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit smoking. Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue. Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit amphetamines." Just watching trailer makes friend laugh...

Simple life: "Hot Wheels"

Hot wheels... I started to collect these pieces recently, but what did really made me to buy my first "Hot Wheels" car? I've never been interested in cars but every time I was watching hip-sop music videos I was dreaming how I'm driving these hot cars with beautiful girl on the freeway of Atlanta or some other "hood". My last purchase was for the rapper known as "Young Jeezy", when he was riding his light green Ferrari on the freeway of ATL in his music video for song "I Luv It"...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wUjfWwqFcFI

That's why I thought why we wouldn't come back to the childhood and play some cars. Everybody got their dream car, no matter if it's Ferrari or Bentley, you always can get it on http://www.hotwheels.com/  For me, since I'm little bit grown from Gangsta Music videos I want to buy Mini Cooper. So catch your feeling when you buying another Hot Wheel model of your dreams, no matter you play it or not, just one look on car of your dream can bring your motivation to the maximum. That's what helps me ;)

Talking about Mini Cooper. Look how cute it is ;)

Interviewing Zachary Corrigan (crazy piano man)

Writing about Zachary Corrigan (Facebook)

Occupation: Student, Theater major.

Couldn't wait to post this post after interviewing friend of mine, Zachary Corrigan. The guy I've met in one of those crazy nights drinking and just enjoying music on St. Patrick's. You can find this youngster cruising around campus, playing on piano in random places, like one of his favorites spots might be chapel or mansion, even with people working there, doing their everyday routine, Zach plays beautiful sounds on classic or any other piano. When I've met him there for the first time he implied: "Hey, they enjoy music, I enjoy good music bruh." So after talking about crazy nights in New Orleans, I've decided to interview him in order to know what might be his pursuit of happiness, what he defines as being happy, being a student in acting major and being musician in soul.

Zach, what you doing right now, on weekdays, weekends?
What am I doing? With my life... I play piano, piano in my room, play burnout on Xbox, play jazz, listening jazz, giving the wife ice cream.

Pretty simple life, ha, how do you define happiness? I mean, what are characteristics of love for you?
What? Oh, god, it's hard one. I'm happy when I'm with friends, family, wife and hookers. (laughing) You know, it's a joke.

So talking about wife, can you see building a new family as one of the main characteristics of happiness?
Yeas, but in the future... I need Zach to grow potential, because I ain't one hit wonder.

How about bad days? What do you do when you upset? When you feel like it's not your day?
Oh it's simple, I usually play piano surrounding myself with person who have sort of positive energy. I like people with positive energy.

What do you do for fun?
At daytime I usually make art, at nightime "Curb Your Enthusiasm" with a beer.

So, basically you a crackhead? (laughing)
How dare you say that!? ...Methhead boy, ha, it's just a joke bro. (smiling and lighting his cigarette)

He welcomes, anybody who wants to contact with him on FB to talk or chill...

Hello young world!

Hey young world! I always wanted to use Slick Rick's phrase at any possible chance introducing myself to the new public. My name is @zfromdagalaxy and I'm a person just like a guy living next door to you, walking with his dog in your neighbourhood, ordering Chinese on Fridays, listening music so you can hear it bumping through your walls. We all people, and I love people, and I love life, but we all feel moody some days, we all have a bad days (especially for me, they come instantly), sitting in your room looking for your friends or not. I had years of depression and after my life changed radically I thought why not all be friends help each other feel better. I'll be meeting interesting people, interviewing them, researching what happiness is, looking for stuff that can make our life much better. I'm a help you, you help me. So anytime you feel happy, upset, sad, and just stuck, come through to my apartment over here on the web, "Livin' Positive".wordpress.com, you always welcome here and be free to feel casual here.
